This handmade, large ceramic fruit and berry bowl with a matching saucer is a beautiful blend of function and artistry. Perfect for rinsing and serving berries, grapes, or other small fruits.
This is big enough to hold 10 small lemons and 2 lbs. of strawberries - 7.5" wide and 3.25" high.
The rounded shape of these bowls is inspired by Chawan from the Joseon Dynasty (17th–18th century Korea). These tea bowls are celebrated for their simple, natural forms and subtle asymmetry, qualities I bring into my own work.
Each drainage hole is cut by hand in varying sizes, angles, and irregular placements, creating a lively and organic pattern around the bowl. This not only makes it practical for straining fruit but also turns it into a unique decorative piece for your kitchen or dining table.
The bowl is finished in a traditional celadon green glaze—soft, translucent, and gently pooling in the carved details. The glaze highlights the natural variations of the clay, giving depth and character to the surface while maintaining a clean and timeless look.
Maker's note
- A special drainage hole is added at the edge of the foot to help water escape, so water doesn’t collect inside the foot while it is drying, as shown in the last picture.
- By combining this historic inspiration with a modern functional design, I hope to create pieces that carry both tradition and everyday usefulness into your home.
